Digging in the dirt (er, soil) is one of the most satisfying “chores” this FarmHer has. The soil’s rich scent, the feel of it on my fingers, the deep brown tones contrasted with the lively green plants – wonderful!
On my To Do List for the next two months: Harvest and process our first personal-sized crop of olives, dig and replant young trees in the grove, transplant some lovely angustifolia (English) lavender, split and plant our iris bulbs, and give the landscape around the Farm House a facelift. I am in my Happy Place!
Speaking of happiness, our neighbors at Full Belly Farm are hosting their 30th Hoes Down Harvest Festival Saturday, October 5th through Sunday, October 6th in nearby Guinda. The festival raises thousands of dollars each year to ensure that agricultural arts and rural communities in our Valley continue to thrive. We are very happy to shine the spotlight on this important event!
Festival weekend is also Opening Weekend for us at Capay Valley Lavender! We will be open Fridays through Sundays, October 4th through December 7th.
Coming to the Festival? Why not make the short drive along Highway 16 and enjoy a quiet stroll through our fields and groves? We’ll stock the Farm Store with your favorite luscious organic lavender products and fun mementos.
You can check out some of that "digging in the dirt" I've been doing. We are planting a new field in October with 3600 lavender plants. One of the plants is a white lavender, named, appropriately, Exceptional!
