Did you ever hear the slogan, “The toughest job you’ll ever love”? It was used by the Peace Corps to inspire people to join them in their work. That’s how I feel about my job!
Up early to walk Capay, in the fields by 6:00 a.m., focusing on harvest and distillation -- working hard to beat the heat of the day. (And, let me tell you, it’s been extra HOT this summer!)
But, oh, friends, I love that hard work. Everything about it and this wonderful farm awakens my senses. As I harvest, I listen to the busy bees, look across our acreage with its vibrant colors, and breathe in the sweet scent of lavender and the spice of the herbs. And I’m not alone. Every day of the week, a team of smart, committed teens joins me in the work. Afterward, a cool glass of lavender lemonade is our reward.
It’s a tough job, and I enjoy every minute. The best part? Seeing this little farm grow into the welcoming environment it is, and making so many new friends.
As I write this, our summer farm tour program is about to turn 100! We’ve welcomed 99 guests so far and expect to greet many more before the summer ends. Come on out! We’ll have a glass of lavender lemonade waiting for you.
