As we begin our eighth year as a lavender farm, I find myself shaking my head in wonder. Who knew?
Back in 2017, I believed lavender might be a good crop for this Valley, even though I had no farming - or even gardening - experience at all. I’ve made plenty of mistakes since then, and I’ve replanted nearly every field to better respect our limited water and hot summers. Today, we have six acres of lavender just waiting to burst into full purple.
Along the way, I've discovered I do have a green thumb. Over the years, I’ve planted 2,500 olive trees, 40 pomegranate trees, and plenty of figs. And we have a new crop coming next Spring. Iris!
The magic of distillation has captured my heart. Our farm now focuses on producing and teaching about essential oils. Our lavender oil is used in all our body products and also by skin care product makers across California. You are invited to join us for this unique and special process at our workshops in June. You will harvest lavender, prepare the still, and bottle your own essential oil.
Looking ahead, I’m happy to report that *no* new fields are planned (my back says thank you). It’s time to enjoy what we’ve built, and spend our days walking the rows, soaking in the scent, and sharing the beauty of Capay Valley.
